Words

String them like pearls on a silken thread.
Play with them like pebbles on a river bed.

Roll them like marbles on a wooden floor.
Squint at them like rays from the crevices of a door.

Float with them like clouds in the blue sky.
Tangle them like hair that’s gone awry.

Make them dance like splinters in a fire.
Fly with them like an eagle soaring higher.

Like a thought comes, and a thought recedes.
Words are all that a writer needs.
